Bloomburg fourth graders attended the Trammel's Trace Mountain Man Rendevous in Jefferson, Texas. Students visited various exhibits including bullet making, muzzleloading, knife throwing, blacksmithing, and many other frontier skills.
Kinsey Kelley and Karlee Cressionie thought the most fun of the day was riding the steam train and seeing the town. Bayden Litzenberg enjoyed throwing the tomahawk while Amber Adams thought the most interesting exhibit was how the blacksmith made metal. She liked the blacksmith making a dragon, a wizard, and a leaf decoration from metal. Cassidy Payne agreed with Amber recalling that the blacksmith pumped air, produced black smoke, and that she could even feel the heat from the fire as it grew hotter. At the end of the day, all of the students agreed that eating ice cream at the Jefferson General Store was also a high point.
Elementary principal Brian Stroman said the visit to Jefferson tied in to their Texas History studies and allowed the students to feel a part of that history. The Mountain Man Rendevous is an annual event, and Mr. Stroman hopes to be able to carry students again next year.
