Meet the Counselor
My name is Andrea Allen and I’m very excited to be a part of Bloomburg ISD. Bloomburg ISD not only feels like home, it is my home! I graduated from Bloomburg High School in 1990. I enjoyed attending a small school as it afforded me the opportunity to be involved in many activities from athletics to student government. I also felt confident in knowing that the teachers I had were concerned for me as a person and not just a student in their class. I’m happy to say that this aspect of Bloomburg ISD has not changed. We have a wonderful staff, who feels that being an educator is a calling and not just a job.
After graduating from Bloomburg, I continued my education at Baylor University. I felt no less prepared for the classes I took than my roommate who graduated from one of the largest high schools in Texas. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1994 and began my teaching career in Weatherford, Texas. During that time I married Bloomburg alum, Clint Allen. I also began working on a Master’s of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling at Tarleton State University, which I completed in 1996.
More college and career opportunities took us to Tulsa, OK where I worked as an Academic Advisor for Tulsa Community College and taught middle school. Life also took us to Houston, Texas for a year where I taught K-5th science. After deciding to move back home and start a family, we settled in Texarkana and then finally Atlanta.
Since being back in the Ark-La-Tex, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and counseling at Bloomburg ISD from 2003 to 2007 and Atlanta High School from 2007-2011. Finally, I’ve returned “home” for good!
