One Class at a Time Winner
December 11, 2009
Bloomburg science teacher Kim Collins was surprised at a pep rally when the Shreveport Channel 3 News crew arrived and presented her with the One Class At A Time $1,000 grant award. Ms. Collins had applied for the grant after learning about the SPARK Science Learning System through Bloomburg's collaboration with Texas A&M University and Dr. David Allard. The SPARK systems are handheld computers with sensors that are attached during lab activities. The system comes preprogrammed with 60 lab activities and will give the students a more concrete, discovery-based approach to learning chemistry concepts. Ms. Collins said she was "excited and extremely surprised" to receive the grant. She is looking forward to the activities, especially the acid-based titration lab, and appreciates Channel 3's grant program allowing teachers the opportunity to bring new ideas into the classroom.
