November 06, 2009
The Bloomburg Independent School District has recently been recognized by TEA through the Gold Performance Acknowledgments for high performance in a number of areas. They were recognized in the category of College-Ready Graduates. For acknowledgment on this indicator, at least 35% of the class of 2008 graduates must have scored at or above the college-ready criteria for both the ELA and Mathematics on the exit-level TAKS test, or the SAT test, or the ACT test. Forty-five percent of BISD 2008 graduates fulfilled this criteria. The were also cited for the number of students who scored at or above the Commended Performance standard on the 8th, 10th, or 11th grade Social Studies TAKS test. To be acknowledged, at least 30% or more of its examinees score at or above the standard. Bloomburg had 45% reach that standard. BISD was also given acknowledgments for the number of Juniors who are considered ready to begin college-level work based on their performance on the Exit-Level TAKS test. To qualify for the recognition, the district must have at least 60% or more of their examinees to score at or above the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard. Bloomburg had 64% of it’s Juniors score at the level on the ELA component and 83% scored at that level on the Math component. Bloomburg High School was also recognized for the amount of improvement shown on the TAKS test in Math and both BISD Elementary and High School campuses were cited for their improvements in ELA. Superintendent Michael White states, “All these acknowledgments are directly due to the outstanding work of the Bloomburg staff and the desire of our students to make Bloomburg the BEST SMALL SCHOOL IN EAST TEXAS.”
