During the 80th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 530 was passed to require fitness assessments for students in grades 3-12 starting in the 2007-2008 school year. Therefore, on April 10, 2008, all 3rd-12th grade Bloomburg students participated in a physical fitness assessment called FitnessGram. The students were tested in the required areas of aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. The testing areas included the following:
Aerobic Capacity - The pacer
Body Composition - Body Mass Index (height & weight)
Strength & Endurance - Curl-up (basic sit-up)
Strength & Flexibility - Trunk lift
Strength & Endurance - Push-up
Flexibility - Sit and Reach and Shoulder Stretch
All students worked very hard on the different areas tested. We were fortunate to have three trainers, Doug Beeman, Travis Works, and Marsha Works, from the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Wellness Center come and help with our testing.
Once all testing information is inputed, parents will be sent a computer generated report of their child's results. This report will explain your child's fitness zone in each of the tested areas.
Students will take this test yearly until they graduate from high school.
Reports should be mailed in May. If you have any questions about the test or your child's scores or information, you may call the Physical Education Department at 903-728-5216.
